On the May 17, 1993 edition of Monday Night Raw, Razor Ramon was set to take on "The Kid", who up until that time appeared to be just another enhancement talent (jobber aka wrestler who always loses decisively to make another wrestler look dominant). It was by winning this match in a shocking upset that finally earned Sean Waltman his wrestling moniker of "1-2-3 Kid." (He had also been known as the Kamikaze Kid, Cannonball Kid, and Lightning Kid.)
After being embarrassed by the now "1-2-3 Kid," Razor was desperate to get a rematch to prove that his loss was a fluke. On the May 24th Monday Night Raw, Ramon offered $2,500 to the 1-2-3 Kid for a rematch, which he declined to accept on May 29th episode of WWF Superstars. Razor upped his offer to $5000 on the May 31st episode of Raw, which the 1-2-3 Kid again refused on the June 5th episode of Superstars. Ramon then offered $7,500 on the June 7th episode of Raw, which was again refused on the subsequent episode of Superstars on June 12th. On the June 14th episode of Raw, Razor upped his offer to $10,000 for a rematch, which the Kid finally accepted.
On June 21st, "Razor Ramon fought the 1-2-3 Kid to a no contest when the Kid grabbed the $10,000 Razor put up to get the rematch and escaped in a waiting car outside the arena. After the break, Vince McMahon got a word with Razor."
Following this match, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase would mock Razor Ramon for how he let the 1-2-3 Kid steal his money. Ted DiBiase would go on to try to show Razor how to beat the Kid in wrestling match on WWF Challenge...with the 1-2-3 Kid once again scoring a major upset. At the conclusion of that match, Razor would come out to mock DiBiase thus turning Razor into a face (fan-favorite aka good guy) for the first time in his WWF career. Ramon would go on to feud with DiBiase, while the 1-2-3 Kid went on to feud with DiBiase's tag team partner IRS...both feuds would culminate at Summerslam 1993.
